UAE Employment Visa Age Limit 2026: Minimum and Maximum Age

The UAE does not use one simple maximum age for every employment visa. The practical result depends on the worker’s age, occupation, employer, insurance and work-permit category. Standard private-sector employment is for adults. Younger people aged 15 to 18 can work only under special juvenile rules. Older applicants may still qualify when an employer is willing to sponsor them and meets the requirements.

Quick answer

  • Standard employment: generally from age 18.
  • Ages 15–18: possible only under the juvenile work rules, with written consent from a parent or guardian and limits on the type and hours of work. The UAE government portal says students aged 15 and above can work or train under these conditions.
  • Maximum age: the UAE government’s official pages that we reviewed do not publish a single upper age limit for all employment visas.
  • Applicants over 60 or 65: approval may still be possible, but employer policies, insurance costs and permit conditions matter more at this age.
  • Final decision: the relevant labour and immigration authorities decide each application.

What the official sources say

The UAE government portal’s page on employment and training of minors explains that students aged 15 and above may work or train with written consent from a parent or guardian. It also sets conditions, such as limits during academic breaks. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) issues a separate juvenile work permit for this age group, so a young person should never assume that a normal adult employment contract is valid for them.

At the other end of the age range, we did not find an official UAE federal rule that sets a universal maximum age for employment visas. Many websites repeat “60” or “65” as a fixed legal cut-off. That is not what the official pages we reviewed say. The limits people run into in practice usually come from employer retirement policies, insurance costs and the conditions attached to a particular permit.

Why people misunderstand the UAE work visa age limit

Retirement policies, employer preferences, insurance rules and permit fees are often confused with immigration eligibility. A company may decline an older candidate for cost reasons even when a permit could legally be considered. That is a hiring decision, not a national ban.

Can someone over 60 get a UAE work visa?

Potentially, yes. Experienced managers, consultants, doctors, engineers and other specialists continue to work in the UAE beyond 60. The employer must be willing to sponsor the applicant, meet the current permit conditions and arrange suitable health insurance.

Can someone over 65 get a UAE work visa?

Age above 65 does not automatically produce the same answer in every case. The occupation, the authority (mainland or free zone), the company and the insurance arrangement all matter. An older applicant should ask the employer for written confirmation that the correct permit category is available before resigning from a current job or paying any agent.

UAE vs Saudi Arabia: age rules compared

If you are considering both countries, this difference matters. An older worker in an elementary occupation may find the UAE route more flexible than Saudi Arabia, where the basic-level ceiling is written into the classification guideline. See our Saudi work permit rules update for details.

What employers check for older applicants

  • Whether the role genuinely needs the applicant’s experience.
  • Medical fitness for the required immigration process.
  • Health-insurance availability and cost.
  • Professional licensing for regulated occupations.
  • Current work-permit fees and company eligibility.

Age and job type

Office and professional roles

Age is often less important when the applicant has scarce skills, leadership experience or professional licences.

Construction and physically demanding work

Employers may apply stricter internal limits because of safety, medical fitness and insurance costs. This is an employer decision, not proof of one national maximum age.

Healthcare, engineering and education

Older specialists may remain employable, but qualification recognition and professional licensing can matter more than age.

Domestic-worker permits

Domestic workers are covered by a different legal and administrative route. Check the exact permit requirements rather than relying on advice written for company employment.

Documents that may be requested

  • Passport with sufficient validity.
  • Employment offer and contract.
  • Recent photograph.
  • Attested qualification where required.
  • Professional licence for regulated work.
  • Medical fitness result and insurance documents.
  • For applicants aged 15–18: written parent or guardian consent, as required under the juvenile rules.

How long does approval take?

Age alone does not set the processing time. A complete application may move quickly, while insurance, medical, licensing or document problems can cause delays. Our UAE employment visa processing guide explains each stage.

How to avoid age-limit scams

Do not pay someone who promises to “remove” an age restriction or guarantee approval. No private agent can override the UAE authorities. Ask the employer to name the permit category, the official fee and the authority handling the application. Under UAE labour law, recruitment costs should not be charged to the worker.

Frequently asked questions

Is 60 the retirement age for all UAE workers?

No. Employment policy and visa eligibility are not the same thing, and the answer varies by sector and arrangement.

Can a 70-year-old work in Dubai?

It may be possible in specialised or senior roles, but sponsorship, medical fitness, insurance and authority approval are essential.

Can a 16-year-old work in the UAE?

Only under the juvenile work rules. The UAE government portal says students aged 15 and above can work or train with written guardian consent, and MOHRE issues a separate juvenile work permit.

Does nationality change the age limit?

The permit category and employment conditions matter more than nationality, although document and security checks can vary.
